Why are widgets winning its prime real estate?

And how do you choose to use your home screen display screen?

Whether it’s about practical use, aesthetics or both, the mobile phone home screen experience has gone well beyond communication becoming an important of the users’ organization, convenience and entertainment needs. And, the home screen is one of the most popular spots for a user to visit and loiter on his/her mobile phone. Home screens traditionally feature apps a user like best or apps he/she uses most. So, it’s obvious that home screen customization has increasingly become home to widgets (quickly replacing apps).

Widgets are active application interfaces that live on a user’s home screen panel, updating periodically without having to enter into the application itself.Widgets are fun because they are simple and accommodating and make data available at a glance without the need to plunge into full apps.  Not all apps in the Marketplace currently come with widgets, but many do and they are designed to pull data from an app, or “standalone” without the need for any other software installed on the phone.

Widgets are what currently make our phones truly unique and easier to use.  Who can argue with the ease of having a weather widget right on your home screen, or a music widget to show you currently playing tracks? Or even ever popular battery or power widget to displays the amount of life left in your phone so you can toggle the connectivity.

We find that hands down most useful are calendar widgets which remind you of every meeting, birthday, and “special” event you might otherwise miss and those To-Do List widgets, that take an “in your face” approach to productivity, which is not only effective but necessary, as they don’t require you to actually look for your to-do list—but actually remind you of what you need to do.
